Day 7: Monday New Hampshire & Mt. Washington
Day 7: Monday New Hampshire & Mt. Washington
(PVM) Is it coincidence that when we pass the place that boasts the highest peak in the Northeast (Mt. Washington reaches 6652 into the sky) that the other Washington grabs our attention? It’s raining. Brochures and people here are telling us that this is a beautiful place. And as I often say when I hear news that there’s going to be a meteor shower or an eclipse of the moon, “oh that would be good to see. Too bad we’re socked in by the clouds….again”. Thank you Rita.
After our morning cup o jo, we’ll find our way to Maine today. Rumors have it that the rain won’t make it all the way to the Atlantic. We’ll find out. I bumped into a couple this morning who said that the village of “bah hahba” is worth the visit. Bah Hahba? I asked them to repeat the name. Same nasal smile, same look of ‘you gotta go there’ and the same undecipherable pronunciation of Bow Harbor, Maine. Maybe I also misunderstood them when they said it was a five hour drive. No, the map says it’s a ways to go. We may not have the throttle left in our sight seeing eyes to go that far north, but it’s tempting. It will definitely be one of those places we’re likely not to see again. Anxious though to put my feet into the Atlantic in Maine. Done that in Florida & South Carolina, done the Pacific in Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington and BC, so will try to fill in the map.
I suppose one of the things we’re doing on this trip is adding to the ‘how many states have you visited?’ trivia conversations you can have over a cup of coffee or a beer (good thing we’re on the prowl for good coffee rather than good beer: we might still be in Pennsylvania if we were trying all the beer!). We talked about the old days when you’d see cars and pickups with decals from different places on their side windows or on their back panels. Remember those? If you say yes then we have a pretty good idea that you’ll be at the trivia table with us at some point filling in the empty states (is that the state of confusion? Or the state of anarchy?)
Off to go fill in the blanks. Later.
